Estimated Utilisation Rates of Unsheltered Bicycle Parking Racks at or Near Transport Facilities

Mr Edward Chia Bing Hui asked the Minister for Transport (a) what is the estimated utilisation rates of unsheltered bicycle parking racks at or near transport facilities; and (b) whether the Ministry will consider building shelters for existing bicycle parking facilities to increase usage by commuters.

The average utilisation rate of the approximately 27,000 bicycle parking lots at key transport nodes was around 60% last year. For unsheltered lots, the utilisation rate is around 55%. These bicycle parking lots can be found at MRT and LRT stations, bus interchanges and Integrated Transport Hubs. They are provided free-of-charge to support active mobility and first-mile, last-mile connectivity.

Where there is space available, it would be more cost-effective to construct them under existing covers and structures at the transport facilities.
