Debated in Parliament on 5 Mar 2021.
Ms Nadia Ahmad Samdin asked the Minister for Trade and Industry whether the Government has been exploring more ways to encourage innovation in manufacturing methods that use more sustainable materials as an alternative to plastics in local mask manufacturing.
With usage of disposable masks growing significantly since COVID-19 struck, it has become increasingly important to use more sustainable materials and production processes. The Government has begun to do this by encouraging the use of reusable masks, which significantly reduce the material used and waste produced. We will also consider ways to promote the use of more environmentally-friendly materials.
