Debated in Parliament on 7 Apr 2020.
Mr Melvin Yong Yik Chye asked the Minister for Home Affairs since the introduction of the Liquor Control Zone (LCZ) at Little India in 2015 (a) what has been the annual number of LCZ breaches for shops and individuals respectively; (b) what are the top three types of breaches reported; (c) how many liquor licences have been revoked; and (d) whether the police has plans to further reduce the number of liquor licences in Little India.
Within the Liquor Control Zone at Little India, there have been about 30 breaches recorded against shops and about 260 breaches recorded against individuals each year, for the past four years.
The most frequent breaches are liquor consumption outside prescribed hours, public drunkenness, and the supply of liquor outside trading hours. As of 30 March 2020, Police have revoked three liquor licences in Little India.
