Debated in Parliament on 3 Jul 2017.
Ms Joan Pereira asked the Minister for Transport (a) how does the Ministry assess motorists' visibility of pedestrians at pedestrian crossings that are partially covered by shrubs and bushes; and (b) whether the Ministry has a standardised framework for assessment and subsequent pruning schedules for the safety of pedestrians.
The size of these no-planting zones depends on site conditions, such as the geometry of the road and the speed limit. In addition, the National Parks Board conducts inspections at least once a month to make sure that greenery does not block the visibility of crossings.
