Debated in Parliament on 3 Apr 2017.
Mr Gan Thiam Poh asked the Minister for National Development how many HDB flats will reach their Minimum Occupation Period of five years in 2017 and in the next three years.
Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat owners are required to fulfil a Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) before they are eligible to sell their flats on the open market.
For flats bought directly from HDB, about 12,000 of them will fulfil their five-year MOP in 2017 and another 56,000 flats will fulfil their MOP from 2018 to 2020. For flats bought from the resale market, about 22,000 will fulfil their MOP this year and another 56,000 flats will fulfil their MOP from 2018 to 2020.
