Debated in Parliament on 17 Aug 2015.
Mr Christopher de Souza asked the Minister for Transport how was LTA able to expedite the completion of the Downtown Line 2 MRT stations ahead of schedule in December 2015 and make up for lost time such that the insolvency of the contractor Alpine Bau GmbH did not hamper the completion timeline.
The insolvency of Alpine Bau affected the completion timeline of three stations, namely, Tan Kah Kee, Sixth Avenue and King Albert Park, and their associated tunnels. They also restructured the work processes and coordinated concurrent activities for the project where feasible.
For example, to expedite the testing and commissioning of the systems, LTA and their contractors carried out the works simultaneously on different parts of the line. To overcome the lack of cabling connection across the affected section to the Operation Control Centre at Gali Batu Depot, a Local Control Centre was set up at Little India station to allow early commencement of testing for this stretch of the line.
