Debated in Parliament on 3 Nov 2014.
Mr Ang Hin Kee asked the Minister for Transport (a) whether LTA has received any feedback from the public about drivers who use their private vehicles to pick up passengers for a fee; (b) what is the number of such feedback received over the past three years; (c) what is the number of drivers who are caught using their private vehicles to pick up passengers for a fee; and (d) whether such cases are increasing over the past three years.
Over the past three years, LTA has received an average of 70 complaints per year about drivers who use their private vehicles to pick up passengers for a fee. A total of 51 drivers have been caught during this period, with more drivers caught in the last year. Convicted offenders may face a fine and jail term and have their vehicles forfeited.
