Debated in Parliament on 4 Aug 2014.
Ms Sylvia Lim asked the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs (a) how many move-on orders have been issued by the Police under the Public Order Act since it came into force; and (b) for what purposes or under what circumstances are the orders issued.
Since the Public Order Act was enacted in 2009, 20 move-on orders have been issued by the Police. These move-on orders were issued to stop unauthorised assemblies and activities in public places that could cause alarm or disorder. By issuing the move-on orders, the Police were able to discontinue the illegal actions and disperse those involved without the need to effect their arrest.
