Debated in Parliament on 4 Aug 2014.
Mr Zaqy Mohamad asked the Minister for Transport (a) whether the LTA will consider building a new MRT train station between Choa Chu Kang MRT and Bukit Gombak MRT stations to serve residents expected in the new HDB BTO flats of Keat Hong Sunshine Gardens, Keat Hong Crescent, Keat Hong Pride, Keat Hong Axis, Keat Hong Colours, Keat Hong Quad and Keat Hong Mirage; and (b) in view of these new developments completing in 2016, when does LTA plan to make public the transport plans for these new developments.
Currently, residents in Keat Hong are connected to the Choa Chu Kang MRT Station via bus services 172, 300 and 975. To keep pace with new demand from upcoming residential developments, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will deploy additional buses to augment the capacity of the existing bus services and introduce new services where needed.
Building a new MRT station in the middle of an operating rail line is technically challenging, costly and would impose significant inconvenience on commuters and also potentially on residents because of possible land acquisitions depending on the location. That said, when it becomes necessary, LTA will study the feasibility.
