Debated in Parliament on 11 Nov 2013.
Assoc Prof Tan Kheng Boon Eugene asked the Minister for Education whether there are term limits for members of the Board of Trustees of our Autonomous Universities and, if not, whether term limits can be introduced to promote leadership renewal, infusion of new ideas and the promotion of meaningful corporate governance.
The Autonomous Universities (AUs) have set recommended term limits for members of their Board of Trustees of 10 to 12 years. However, the terms of board members may be extended on a case-by-case basis where this is deemed beneficial to the University.
