Miss Rachel Ong asked the Acting Minister for Transport in light of Singapore's transition to electric vehicles (EVs) that may be quieter (a) what measures ensure zebra and unsignalised crossings remain safe for visually impaired persons; (b) whether acoustic vehicle alerting systems will be mandated or enhanced; and (c) what additional assistive measures are being studied to support visually impaired pedestrians.
To guide visually impaired pedestrians, tactile tiles are installed where footpaths intersect with driveways of developments and at-grade pedestrian crossings.
