Targeted Assistance Measures for Older Private Estates to Navigate Independent Lift Upgrading Projects

Dr Charlene Chen asked the Minister for National Development whether targeted assistance measures can be provided by BCA to help older private estates navigate the potential complexities of independent lift upgrading projects, such as up-to-date information on qualified licensed consultants and specialised technical requirements.

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) provides resources on its website to guide building owners and Management Corporations Strata Title (MCSTs) on lift modernisation. These include recommendations on lift components to consider for modernisation, suggested timelines to develop modernisation plans as well as preparatory steps, such as financial planning. BCA's website also provides up-to-date information on qualified professionals, such as Specialist Professional Engineers and registered lift contractors, whom building owners and MCSTs may engage.

In addition, BCA provides training for managing agents to equip them with the necessary knowledge to support MCSTs in managing and modernising their lifts. MCSTs can approach BCA to find out more about the resources provided.
