Debated in Parliament on 10 Sep 2026.
Mr Low Wu Yang Andre asked the Minister for Transport regarding LTA's study of public transport for Tuas South (a) what options, including Bus Rapid Transit and rail, are being assessed; (b) what criteria will determine which option is selected; and (c) what is the intended use of the existing Gul Circle MRT station platforms and tracks.
We are focusing our study of public transport options for Tuas South on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems because they are potentially more economical, flexible and faster to implement than rail, while providing better capacity than regular bus services.
The feasibility study for BRT systems will look at projected public transport ridership, land and infrastructure requirements, and its impact on existing traffic. As part of the study, we will look at different vehicle types to determine the optimal system design.
The two additional platforms at Gul Circle Mass Rapid Transit station can be used to extend the East-West Line should there be a need in the future.
