Debated in Parliament on 10 Sep 2026.
Dr Choo Pei Ling asked the Minister for Education (a) what proportion of Primary 5 and Secondary 3 students surveyed in 2025 have slept below the recommended duration for their age on school days; (b) whether this proportion has changed since 2023; and (c) whether there are significant differences in sleep sufficiency across different student groups.
The Ministry of Education monitors the sleep trends of students through regular surveys. Based on our latest survey in 2025, Primary 5 and Secondary 3 students reported getting an average of seven hours of sleep on school days. This is a slight improvement of about 15 minutes more in 2025 compared to 2023. Generally, younger students reported getting more sleep than older students.
