Debated in Parliament on 10 Sep 2026.
Mr Fadli Fawzi asked the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth (a) whether the Preservation of Sites and Monuments division has studied the historical value of the Lee Rubber Godowns; (b) if so, whether there are any plans to conserve the site; and (c) if there are no plans, why does the division not consider the Lee Rubber Godowns to be a site of sufficient significance worthy of study for preservation.
The National Heritage Board has assessed that the site does not have the requisite national importance and historic significance to be considered for preservation as a National Monument. Notwithstanding, the Urban Redevelopment Agency has engaged the owner to explore the feasibility of retaining one of the Lee Rubber Godowns as a heritage marker in the proposed park. Where physical retention is not possible, agencies will work with the owner and relevant stakeholders to document and commemorate the site's history.
