He Ting Ru asked about the percentage of Singapore Citizens with an additional Hanyu Pinyin name and the yearly statistics for the last decade regarding such registrations. K Shanmugam responded that approximately 13% of Singapore Citizens have registered an additional Hanyu Pinyin name as of February 2026. Additionally, an annual average of about 3,500 Singapore Citizens have included an additional Hanyu Pinyin name during birth registration between 2016 and 2025.
Ms He Ting Ru asked the Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs (a) what is the total percentage of Singapore Citizens who have an additional hanyu pinyin name registered as part of their legal name; and (b) in each of the last 10 years, how many Singapore Citizen babies have had an additional hanyu pinyin name included in their names.
As of February 2026, about 13% of Singapore Citizens have registered an additional Hanyu Pinyin name with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. Between 2016 and 2025, an annual average of about 3,500 Singapore Citizens had an additional Hanyu Pinyin name included during their birth registration.
