Expansion of Microplastics and PFAS Monitoring Programme from Water to Sediments and Food

Mr David Hoe asked the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment (a) whether there have been any recent changes or expansions to the monitoring programme for microplastics and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) beyond water to sediments and food; and (b) what new findings, if any, have emerged from the most recent monitoring data.

The Singapore Food Agency, the National Environment Agency and the Public Utilities Board, Singapore's National Water Agency, have been monitoring the level of microplastics and PFAS in our food, drinking water, coastal waters and sediments.

There have been no recent changes or expansions to the monitoring programme. Most recent monitoring data show that the level of microplastics and PFAS remains low or undetectable.
