Debated in Parliament on 14 Oct 2024.
Ms See Jinli Jean asked the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry (a) in the last 10 years, what has been the annual direct economic contributions of the six creative industries, namely, advertising, broadcasting media, publishing industries, interior, graphics and fashion design, photography, and industrial design in respect of (i) receipts, (ii) value-added, (iii) employment, (iv) value-add per worker and (v) exports; and (b) what are the projected changes in their direct economic contributions for 2024 and 2025.
Collectively, the creative industries have performed well in the last 10 years from 2012 to 2022. Receipts have more than doubled from $16.6 billion to $39.8 billion, with exports growing from $4.3 billion to $16.2 billion. Nominal value-added has also doubled from $5.7 billion to $11.4 billion. With employment remaining stable at about 63,000 workers, the value-added per worker has thus doubled from $90,400 to $184,100.
The outlook for the creative industries remains positive, with opportunities to leverage technology and international partnerships to grow in Singapore and beyond.
