Debated in Parliament on 18 Sep 2023.
Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong asked the Minister for Trade and Industry (a) whether the Government is exploring plans to sign an agreement with India to buy renewable energy; and (b) if so, what percentage of Singapore’s 2030 projected electricity demand target can be met from this agreement.
Singapore and India enjoy a strong bilateral relationship. The energy transition is an emerging and potentially important area of collaboration. Both countries can study ways to support our respective net-zero goals, while ensuring energy security and resilience.
EMA has awarded Conditional Approvals (CAs) to import three GW of low-carbon electricity thus far. We continue to evaluate the proposals and will award CAs to those that meet our requirements.
