Debated in Parliament on 9 May 2023.
Mr Leon Perera asked the Minister for Health (a) what is the total amount of donations raised by the Rare Disease Fund (RDF) in 2022; (b) what is the respective breakdown of this donation by donor type, namely, philanthropic foundations, companies, Government, NGOs, individuals and others; and (c) whether the Government will consider rolling out a strategy to obtain RDF donations from individuals through public communications, to complement the current approaches to raising donations.
The Rare Disease Fund (RDF) raised $4.9 million in public donations in the calendar year 2022, with $2.3 million contributed by foundations, $1.3 million from companies and the remaining from individuals and others. Together with the Government's $3-to-$1 matching grant, this brings the total funds raised by RDF in 2022 to $19.2 million.
The RDF Committee has been actively reaching out to potential donors and conducting publicity efforts to raise awareness of the Fund. It will consider stepping up efforts in this area.
