The Minister for Defence affirmed that the Government does not plan to enlist women for National Service, as the primary justification for conscription remains the critical need for national defense, not social engineering or gender equality. He highlighted that the SAF has maintained operational readiness through technology and resource optimization despite declining male enlistees, making compulsory NS for women unnecessary at this time. The current proportion of women in the SAF Regular force is about 8%, with 5% in senior leadership ranks, and the government has implemented measures to attract and retain more women in service.
