Laws to Protect Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- The Ministry for Social and Family Development acknowledged the need to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and highlighted progress through the Enabling Masterplan and ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
- Existing laws, including general statutes and specific measures like the Mental Capacity Act and BCA’s Code on Accessibility, are already in place to cover the needs of persons with disabilities, with periodic reviews to ensure relevance.
- Beyond legislation, the Ministry emphasized the importance of changing public attitudes through campaigns like "We are Able!" to build a more inclusive society.
