Recognising Eczema as a Chronic Disease
Tin Pei Ling addressed the need for more attention on atopic dermatitis (eczema), highlighting its high prevalence in Singapore and the significant burden it places on patients' physical and mental well-being. She called for the inclusion of moderate-to-severe eczema in the Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP) and urged the Ministry of Health to consider adding effective treatments like Dupilumab to the list of subsidized medications. Senior Minister of State Janil Puthucheary acknowledged these concerns, explaining the current treatment options and subsidies available, while emphasizing a commitment to regularly review the adequacy of support for patients with eczema. Discussions revealed challenges regarding the cost-effectiveness of newer treatments and the need for standardized treatment guidelines for eczema.
