Measures when Mortuaries are Unable to Cope with Surge in Demand
- Mr Gan Thiam Poh asked the Ministry of Health about immediate measures if mortuaries in Singapore cannot handle a surge in demand.
- Ong Ye Kung explained that mortuaries managed by hospitals and HSA are temporary storage facilities with existing processes for timely transfer of the deceased.
- He noted that over the past decade, mortuaries have met actual demand for space and that contingency plans, including mobile refrigerated containers, are in place to add capacity during surges.
