Ramps Leading Up to Pedestrian Overhead Bridges
- Mr Lim Biow Chuan asked the Minister for Transport about the average construction cost of ramps for pedestrian overhead bridges and their effectiveness given their length.
- The Minister for Transport, Lui Tuck Yew, stated that the average cost for a pair of ramps is about $1.8 million, compared to $2.9 million for a pair of lifts.
- Ramps are typically 100 metres long and are built at existing pedestrian overhead bridges where space allows, to improve barrier-free accessibility, especially near park connectors or across expressways.
- To enhance accessibility for the elderly, features such as flat surfaces every nine metres, railings, and hand grips are included, and all ramps comply with gradient requirements of the BCA Code for Barrier-Free Accessibility.
